Favorite Quote from Sweded Movie Project

The movie that I think we're doing for the movie project is the infamous Monty Python and the Holy Grail

There are so many awesome lines in this movie, but my favorite bit has to come from the Book of Armaments  when talking about the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.

The last bit gets me every time  "And those who be naughty in my sight...shall snuff it"

bahaha

#19 Internet History

I thought that this video was very well done. It was informative and somewhat intriguing. The presentation was very interesting, those graphics were awesome! It was so much more interesting than the day we spent on the history of the internet in my Media and Culture class last semester. The voice over was done very well too. There is something about a British accent that makes sound instantly intellectual and interesting.
I knew most of the things that were presented in the video, like DARPA and the ARPAnet. I did not know about the counterparts from the Brits and the French. I thought was interesting that it was the French that came up with the term "internet". Who knew? And they came up with a way to streamline the process of information moving from one server to another. I didn't understand all of the technical talk that went on the video, but I got the gist of it. It is indeed remarkable that some form of the internet has existed since the 1960s. There have been so many changes and improvements.

5 MOVIES

Here are five movies that I think would be awesome to do for the group project

1. Monty Python and the Holy Grail

2. RED

3. The Princess Bride

4. Inception

5. The Matrix

I'm pretty sure our group is leaning towards either Monty Python or RED.

Design Aesthetic

One of my favorite websites is the Barnes&Noble website :

I love this website because the it is neat, looks clean, and does not have too much stuff on the home page.

Alejandro and Moira Sina

These two are the team of artists that I'm doing my project on. They work with lights for their artwork as seen below
And here is the link to their super cool website  - http://www.sinalightworks.com/index.html

Dean Kamen

This is a fountain vending machine that Dean Kamen helped invent with Coca-Cola. I chose this one because I've actually seen one! There is one in the Atlanta airport at the Chick-fil-a in C-concourse I think.

It was totally one of these and its awesome because it has a lot of drinks and its a touch screen and it reminds me of the Jetsons.

Who invented AC electric current?
(Nikola Tesla)

It twas I!! Nikola Tesla..the electric man..

What instrument did Clara Rockmore play and who invented it?
(theremin; Leon Theremin)

Look Mom! No Strings!!

who invented the term tensegrity... and what other important inventions came from this person?
(Buckminster Fuller ; may I direct your attention to the stamp)

He's watching you in the future

Dunne and Raby "Between Reality and the Impossible"

my favorite of the four designs in "Between Reality and the Impossible" was the foragers concept.
"Foragers: The world is running out of food – we need to produce 70% more food in the next 40 years according to the UN. Yet we continue to over-populate the planet, use up resources and ignore all the warning signs. It is completely unsustainable. In this scenario, a group of people take their fate into their own hands and start building DIY devices. They use synthetic biology to create “microbial stomach bacteria”, along with electronic and mechanical devices, to maximise the nutritional value of the urban environment, making-up for any shortcomings in the commercially available but increasingly limited diet. These people are the new urban foragers"

Of the seven images for the foragers this was the one that I liked the best.

I like this one because it looks like a scene that I would see in a sci-fi or futuristic movie. Out of all of the scenes this one seemed to me to fit and not be out of place.

my super awesome mixing bowl

This is an attempt of a drawing of my cool mixing bowl.  In my head I see this mixing bowl looking like a normal bowl but with an attachment that will be able to scan recipes and inform the person mixing by speaking if something is missing. There would also be a button that would allow the instructions or messages from the bowl to be projected on the insides and outsides of the bowl. Both the lights and the voice can be turned off. There is also a button that allows for deviations in the recipes and even suggests them. The attachment can come off, since you probably shouldn't wash it. And without the scanner attachment its microwave, oven and dishwasher safe :)

Oh the Invention Possibilities!

Here are three possibilities for new inventions for the next assignment.

Option One : An interactive console that would allow you to create and edit digital images, 2D and 3D with your hands rather than on a computer screen. It's like a cross between a smart board and the map reader Obi Wan Kenobi used in Star Wars Episode II :Attack of the Clones. You can use your hands to manipulate the image and its projected so that you can walk around, and actually "touch" it.

Option Two : A bowl that allows you to scan the recipe and then tells you what needs to be done by either speaking or with writing appearing on the sides of the bowl. It will also have an option that tells you what possible deviations are. It can be turned off it if get annoying :)

Option Three : A fashionable ring that can be taken apart and used as a lock pick set. It uses a material that is pliable but will hold it's shape when it's straight. Very handy when you're locked out of your dorm room.

the super awesome cool video that blows my mind in preparation for the next project

So here is that super awesome cool video from the Vancouver Film School
http://vimeo.com/7993383

I thought this video was really cool. My only critique of it that we didn't talk about in class was that when the guy is coming up the stairs the boxes aren't there in front of the drums, but reappear when the frontal view is shown. Maybe it was intentional...maybe not. I did like that there were reflections of the boxes on the floor. What I did like was how the colors of the boxes changed as they moved around, and the concept in general was fascinating. We'll just have to see how this next project goes, my mind is a bit overwhelmed right now with all of the possibilities.

If I Had A Million Dollars......

Well the iris project has finally been completed!! Huzzarh!

The question has been posed on what I would do with this project if I had one million dollars to work with.  Well....I would make it out of actual irises. It would have to be huge since people would be able to walk around and in it with a spiral path going in and out of the eye. Maybe the size of a half a football field? With a raised area above it so that you see the pattern all of these irises are making. It would look different because all of the irises would be looking up and not sideways and warped. I think it would look cool in the gardens of some old large house, like Pemberley from "Pride and Prejudice". The shape would be rounded so it would blend into the organic setting of the garden and would probably merge with other flower beds to give a flow of continuity. I think it would look awesome. Totally awesome.

Progress on the Iris of Irises

This is where I am on my project as of the end of class on Monday. As I see it now my eye is a little off center, and not as round as I would like it to be. Nature is not perfect, nor am I. I wish I knew a way to make it more realistic, I might add parts of a bottom eye lid time permitting. This project has been tedious with the constant duplicating of layers, but I have enjoyed warping the irises to make the eyelashes. It's fun and different. Well see how this goes :)

Appropriation Music Videos

These two are some of my favorite music videos, I couldn't decide on just one so I'm going for two! The first one is called "John Williams is the Man" and it takes themes from scores that John Williams has written, mashed them all together and put Star Wars lyrics to it. How awesome is that?! The second one is done by students at Yeshiva University and the made a Hanukkah version of the song "Dyanamite", I think. These are great and I hope y'all enjoy them as much as I do.

Blog #6

This image is the close to what I am attempting to do with my project, with particular interest in the eyes. I found this website, http://www.environmentteam.com/art/vegetables-and-flowers-human-portraits/, this artist has made portraits out of flowers and vegetables. One other image that got my brain working on this project was one of the examples used from another class, it was Mother Nature made out of different elements of nature, such as flowers and fruit. Mine is different since it is also a play on words. The iris of the eye made out of Irises, the flower.  It's moving along nicely. This website also had some other links to artwork that was very interesting, portraits made out of the tape in audio tapes, floppy disks and other sorts on objects.

My Sketch for the first project

So I flipped one of my ideas for the project, instead of making the flower iris out of eye irises, I'm going to do the opposite....we'll see how this goes. Here is my sketch for this undertaking

Theme Possibilities

For our appropriation project we needed to come up with 3-5 possible themes to work with. I was personally thinking possibly using the themes of family, science fiction, literature, or nature.
I was thinking of using this picture of my niece from this past Christmas, possibly for family. Isn't she adorable?!
For science fiction, I would probably use this star trek logo and either fill it with Star Wars, or use it to make the Star Wars logo
For nature I would use this iris, maybe to make an Iris, the flower not another eye iris.

For literature, I thought it would be cool to use a human alphabet for something.  :)

This project should be very interesting! We'll just have to see how it goes!

John Baldesari Post August 30, 2011

This is a piece by John Baldesari is called Beethoven's Trumpet. The trumpet coming out of the ear is a representation of what Beethoven had to do later in life because of hearing loss. I feel like the piece is listening to the world, somewhat of an inverse of what was happening to Beethoven. People were coming to listen to the work he created, and in this piece he's now listening to what else the world has to offer. I like this work because its something that I can relate to. I love classical music, and Beethoven was a great composer, even when he went deaf.

The Appropriation of Art 08-26-2011

I found this image on Google as an example of appropriation of art, or borrowing elements of someone else's work to make an image of your own. It is a lot like the Obama "Hope" images that everyone and their mom appropriated around election time 3 years ago. This image is obviously an appropriation of Leonardo Da Vinci's Last Supper. This image shows Jesus and his disciples jamming out in the Upper Room Club, with Jesus as the awesome rockin' DJ. I found this personally hilarious and that's why I chose this image for today.
Later!

My First Post

So this is my first blog post ever! We'll have to see how this goes along with this semester, my last fall semester at the glorious Mercer University...eek! Let's Go ART 254!
