the super awesome cool video that blows my mind in preparation for the next project

So here is that super awesome cool video from the Vancouver Film School
http://vimeo.com/7993383

I thought this video was really cool. My only critique of it that we didn't talk about in class was that when the guy is coming up the stairs the boxes aren't there in front of the drums, but reappear when the frontal view is shown. Maybe it was intentional...maybe not. I did like that there were reflections of the boxes on the floor. What I did like was how the colors of the boxes changed as they moved around, and the concept in general was fascinating. We'll just have to see how this next project goes, my mind is a bit overwhelmed right now with all of the possibilities.

If I Had A Million Dollars......

Well the iris project has finally been completed!! Huzzarh!

The question has been posed on what I would do with this project if I had one million dollars to work with.  Well....I would make it out of actual irises. It would have to be huge since people would be able to walk around and in it with a spiral path going in and out of the eye. Maybe the size of a half a football field? With a raised area above it so that you see the pattern all of these irises are making. It would look different because all of the irises would be looking up and not sideways and warped. I think it would look cool in the gardens of some old large house, like Pemberley from "Pride and Prejudice". The shape would be rounded so it would blend into the organic setting of the garden and would probably merge with other flower beds to give a flow of continuity. I think it would look awesome. Totally awesome.

Progress on the Iris of Irises

This is where I am on my project as of the end of class on Monday. As I see it now my eye is a little off center, and not as round as I would like it to be. Nature is not perfect, nor am I. I wish I knew a way to make it more realistic, I might add parts of a bottom eye lid time permitting. This project has been tedious with the constant duplicating of layers, but I have enjoyed warping the irises to make the eyelashes. It's fun and different. Well see how this goes :)

Appropriation Music Videos

These two are some of my favorite music videos, I couldn't decide on just one so I'm going for two! The first one is called "John Williams is the Man" and it takes themes from scores that John Williams has written, mashed them all together and put Star Wars lyrics to it. How awesome is that?! The second one is done by students at Yeshiva University and the made a Hanukkah version of the song "Dyanamite", I think. These are great and I hope y'all enjoy them as much as I do.

Blog #6

This image is the close to what I am attempting to do with my project, with particular interest in the eyes. I found this website, http://www.environmentteam.com/art/vegetables-and-flowers-human-portraits/, this artist has made portraits out of flowers and vegetables. One other image that got my brain working on this project was one of the examples used from another class, it was Mother Nature made out of different elements of nature, such as flowers and fruit. Mine is different since it is also a play on words. The iris of the eye made out of Irises, the flower.  It's moving along nicely. This website also had some other links to artwork that was very interesting, portraits made out of the tape in audio tapes, floppy disks and other sorts on objects.

My Sketch for the first project

So I flipped one of my ideas for the project, instead of making the flower iris out of eye irises, I'm going to do the opposite....we'll see how this goes. Here is my sketch for this undertaking

Theme Possibilities

For our appropriation project we needed to come up with 3-5 possible themes to work with. I was personally thinking possibly using the themes of family, science fiction, literature, or nature.
I was thinking of using this picture of my niece from this past Christmas, possibly for family. Isn't she adorable?!
For science fiction, I would probably use this star trek logo and either fill it with Star Wars, or use it to make the Star Wars logo
For nature I would use this iris, maybe to make an Iris, the flower not another eye iris.

For literature, I thought it would be cool to use a human alphabet for something.  :)

This project should be very interesting! We'll just have to see how it goes!
