Dunne and Raby "Between Reality and the Impossible"

my favorite of the four designs in "Between Reality and the Impossible" was the foragers concept.
"Foragers: The world is running out of food – we need to produce 70% more food in the next 40 years according to the UN. Yet we continue to over-populate the planet, use up resources and ignore all the warning signs. It is completely unsustainable. In this scenario, a group of people take their fate into their own hands and start building DIY devices. They use synthetic biology to create “microbial stomach bacteria”, along with electronic and mechanical devices, to maximise the nutritional value of the urban environment, making-up for any shortcomings in the commercially available but increasingly limited diet. These people are the new urban foragers"

Of the seven images for the foragers this was the one that I liked the best.

I like this one because it looks like a scene that I would see in a sci-fi or futuristic movie. Out of all of the scenes this one seemed to me to fit and not be out of place.

my super awesome mixing bowl

This is an attempt of a drawing of my cool mixing bowl.  In my head I see this mixing bowl looking like a normal bowl but with an attachment that will be able to scan recipes and inform the person mixing by speaking if something is missing. There would also be a button that would allow the instructions or messages from the bowl to be projected on the insides and outsides of the bowl. Both the lights and the voice can be turned off. There is also a button that allows for deviations in the recipes and even suggests them. The attachment can come off, since you probably shouldn't wash it. And without the scanner attachment its microwave, oven and dishwasher safe :)

Oh the Invention Possibilities!

Here are three possibilities for new inventions for the next assignment.

Option One : An interactive console that would allow you to create and edit digital images, 2D and 3D with your hands rather than on a computer screen. It's like a cross between a smart board and the map reader Obi Wan Kenobi used in Star Wars Episode II :Attack of the Clones. You can use your hands to manipulate the image and its projected so that you can walk around, and actually "touch" it.

Option Two : A bowl that allows you to scan the recipe and then tells you what needs to be done by either speaking or with writing appearing on the sides of the bowl. It will also have an option that tells you what possible deviations are. It can be turned off it if get annoying :)

Option Three : A fashionable ring that can be taken apart and used as a lock pick set. It uses a material that is pliable but will hold it's shape when it's straight. Very handy when you're locked out of your dorm room.
